PRETORIA. Fears of a sovereign football crisis concerning European countries -most notably Spain, France and Germany- erupted this week. Today betting spreads widened considerably. FIFA officials admitted that they are considering a rescue package. They would attempt to transfer points to the troubled teams by deploying "friendly" referees in important matches. Alternatively, Europeans could be granted permission to implement additional defensive measures such as putting three goalkeepers on the field.
Bolão participant Cabeça de Macaco, who earned 8 points by shorting Germany in its match against Serbia, spoke out against FIFA's meddling. "Intervening will only make matters worse. Changing the rules is bad for incentives" he said while peeling a banana.
